On August 22, 2022, China marked a significant achievement as the first 1500HP low-emission automated petroleum drilling rigs with an advanced silencing and noise reduction system started operating in Uganda, meeting European standards. This successful development showcases China’s capabilities in promoting environmentally friendly initiatives along the “Belt and Road.”
The Central Huaxia Greenyu New Materials Company developed the silencing system and underwent rigorous testing. Even though there was a lack of prior data and references, the team innovatively designed a comprehensive noise control solution for more than 30 noisy equipment units on the drilling site.
The noise acceptance test was conducted using international standards and achieved impressive results. Despite the drilling rig’s initial noise level of 115dB, the silencing measures effectively reduced the factory noise to 55-40 dB. This achievement significantly minimizes the environmental impact of petroleum extraction in Uganda’s sensitive wildlife areas.
This silencing system, the largest of its kind in the petroleum drilling industry, is notable for its adaptability and ease of maintenance. It can be disassembled as a whole, making transportation and upkeep more convenient.
In summary, the successful implementation of this advanced silencing system in Uganda’s petroleum drilling operations underscores China’s leadership in noise reduction technology, which aligns with global environmental goals.
