Sinopec Shengli Petroleum Engineering Co., Ltd recently unveiled its latest acquisition – a state-of-the-art offshore drilling rig, signifying a significant boost in its marine drilling prowess. Christened “New Shengli No. 3,” this rig is a Super116E model, a square truss self-elevating type, conceptualized by American firm LeTourneau and crafted at the Yangtze River Shipyard in Taicang, Jiangsu. The rig, completed in 2016, boasts an impressive maximum operational depth of 106 meters and a drilling reach of 9144 meters, capable of efficiently drilling 48 wells in a single deployment.
Equipped with advanced automation, integration, and intelligence systems, New Shengli No. 3 excels in operational efficiency and adheres to stringent safety and environmental standards. The rig journeyed from the Yangzi River Sanjing Shipyard in Taicang, Jiangsu, covering 532 nautical miles in 84 hours through a dry towage to its destination at Pier No. 3 of the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Weihai, Shandong. This operation was meticulously executed in collaboration with various agencies, ensuring utmost safety and efficiency.
In response to the phasing out of older platforms, Sinopec Shengli has adopted a strategic approach, “retire three, introduce two,” to maintain an optimal fleet through leases, purchases, and new constructions. A specialized team was formed to oversee equipment inspections and calibrations proactively, alongside comprehensive plans for staffing, dock repairs, and material provisioning to expedite the new platform’s operational readiness.
This newly integrated platform is set to play a pivotal role in enhancing the efficiency of offshore explorations and developments, propelling Sinopec Shengli to new heights in its offshore reserve enhancement and production pursuits.
